New houses could be built at Burnage Cricket Club

Plans are afoot to build new homes on a former cricket club in Burnage.

On the corner of Kingsway and Mauldeth Road, property company Views plans to build 68 homes on the land.

This would include 58 family homes, the majority of which would have four bedrooms, and convert the existing building on the land into apartments.

A proposed scheme by Manchester-based Ollier Smurthwaite Architects is inspired by the original Burnage Garden Village, with each house having its own private rear garden and front driveway.

Although cricket has not been played at the club for years, the club operated as a social venue until its license was revoked in 2022 after weapons and drugs were found at the venue during a police raid.

Plans to redevelop Burnage Cricket Club could transform the area and provide ‘a significant number’ of new trees, flowers and shrubs to attract wildlife.

As part of the plan, developer Views is looking into how it can provide a replacement cricket ground in the Burnage area.
