Fatal collision in Philadelphia. What clues were left – NBC10 Philadelphia

By Vaseline May30,2024

A man died after being struck by a driver who fled the scene overnight in Northeast Philadelphia, Philadelphia police said.

The fatal collision occurred late Wednesday, May 29, 2024, just before midnight, along the 1800 block of Torresdale Avenue in the Frankford section, Philadelphia Police Chief Scott Small said.

“This is a fatal collision,” Small said.

Police officers and medics found an unconscious man in his 40s in the middle of the street “suffering from severe trauma to his head,” Small said.

The man would die in hospital shortly after midnight, police said.

Witnesses told investigators the man was crossing the mid-block of Torresdale when an eastbound vehicle struck him and then drove away, Small said.

Witnesses said it appeared a small SUV — possibly a Honda CRV — hit the man, Small said. The SUV appeared to be mostly blue in color, but it appeared to have had work done on it, so some parts could be different colors.

Police found several pieces of the striking SUV — including what appears to be a piece of the front bumper — abandoned, Small said. These clues, along with witness statements and surveillance videos, can help police track down the driver.
