The movies in hotels in Atlanta

By Vaseline May30,2024

Do you remember the movie ‘Deliverance’? Of course it was filmed in Georgia. According to the Georgia Department of Industry and Trade, it has even “put Georgia on the grid as a film state.” A year after “Deliverance,” Governor Jimmy Carter created the Georgia Film Office. Since then, the industry has grown into a $4 billion Georgian industry. You Tube DIYers enjoy tracking down locations where Georgia and Atlanta scenes have been filmed in movies and TV shows. Travelers sometimes choose their hotel in Atlanta because a scene from one of their favorite movies was filmed there. Do you remember the scenes discussed below?

Remember the elevator scene in “Hunger Games: Catching Fire?” Walk into the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and immediately step into the elevator. We don’t recommend stripping down like Johanna Mason did in that scene. And in case you don’t know, Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t on set the day the scene was shot, even though you’d never know that if you’d seen the movie. At least it looks like she’s been there.

Another film shot partially at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis was “Flight,” in which Denzel Washington’s character, Whip Whitaker, gets drunk in the hotel lobby.

The Beaux Arts Candler Building dates back to 1906 and was built by Atlanta Coca-Cola Co. magnate Asa Griggs Candler. In the movie ‘Baby Driver’ the building is depicted as the First Bank of Atlanta. Filmgoers see the exterior of the beautiful building.

Who can forget that the grand ballroom of the Georgian Terrace was the location of the premiere gala for the film ‘Gone With the Wind?’ Films shot partly on the Georgian Terrace include ‘The Change-Up’ (the ballroom was depicted as the Plantation Oaks Country Club); and “Identity Theft” (the hotel where Sandy and Diana stay in the film).
