Punjab CEO urges voters to hit the stalls on June 1 to make the state achieve “Is Vaar 70 Paar”

SAS Nagar: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C urged voters to hit the polling booths on June 1 with full enthusiasm and zeal to make the state achieve the target of “Is Vaar 70 Paar”.

On the occasion of a Walkathon from Bougainvillea Garden, Phase 4, Mohali on Sunday morning organized with the help of local community clubs and NGOs, CEO Sibin C said the Walkathon aims to raise awareness on the importance of active participation in elections and to promote a healthy lifestyle. Participants from different walks of life took part in the event, making it a vibrant and successful initiative to engage with the public as part of the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity.

The Walkathon highlighted the importance of voting and green elections, with participants wearing green T-shirts and caps with the slogan ‘Our Mission – Green Elections’. Saplings were also distributed to the participants to promote the message of green elections by the Election Commission of India (ECI). CEO Sibin C also planted a sapling in Bougainvillea Garden to underline the green election message. He also launched green T-shirts and caps.

The CEO said Mohali and all other districts are ready for voting with just one week to go. To increase turnout and attract more voters, SVEEP activities are underway to raise awareness about voting rights and encourage participation in various ways.

A new initiative called Home Vote (for 85+ and PwD) has been launched for older voters and people with disabilities. Moreover, the Saksham mobile app is useful in obtaining transportation facilities for the elderly and PwD voters, as well as volunteer assistance and wheelchairs at polling booths, he added.

He said women voters constitute about 49 percent of the state’s electorate, so special attention is being paid to them by arranging facilities like crèches for babies, waiting areas, air conditioners/coolers/fans to combat heat wave conditions, toilets and others insured minimum facilities. . He added that Rapido has also offered their services for free transportation of voters to the polling booths. He expressed gratitude to the media for their cooperation in awareness activities under SVEEP to encourage voters.

Punjabi film actress Raj Dhaliwal and actor Darshan Aulakh were also present to acknowledge the efforts of the ECI. ADC (G)-cum-Additional District Election Officer Viraj S. Tidke, who received the Chief Executive Officer of Punjab on this occasion, briefed about the election preparations to ensure maximum voter turnout on June 1.
