On Thursday, State Auditor Shad White announced that Roger Lofton, former Support Care Professional at Mississippi State Hospital, has pleaded guilty to fraudulent representations and statements.

Rogers was arrested in January 2024.

He is guilty of falsifying time sheets while working at the Mississippi State Hospital. Lofton was issued a demand letter for $2,671.75 at the time of his arrest.

“We will continue to investigate cases, large and small, to send the message that we have zero tolerance for fraud on taxpayer dollars,” said State Auditor Shad White.

Lofton was prosecuted by District Attorney John “Bubba” Bramlett’s office. Lofton’s sentencing is set for June 4.

No bond will cover Lofton’s employment at Mississippi State Hospital. Sureties are similar to insurance designed to protect taxpayers from corruption. Lofton remains liable for the full amount of the claim in addition to criminal charges.

Suspected fraud can be reported online to the Auditor’s office at any time by clicking the red button on the Auditor’s website or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.
