Manchester United are considering a contract extension for Mason Greenwood, but he will not return to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils graduate was loaned out to Spanish side Getafe last season after it was decided he had no future at the club. He was initially suspended after allegations of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior and assault.

The Crown Prosecution Service has dropped all these charges. But Greenwood is yet to return to the first team at Old Trafford. Now, according to The I, he could receive an extended contract from the Red Devils. The 25-year-old’s current contract expires in 2025 with an option for a further year.

A new deal does not guarantee a return, but rather the hope is that they can force a temporary sale. It is suggested that the club hierarchy are considering activating their option to subsequently offer Greenwood on loan, with a purchase obligation included in any agreement.

It is further reported that the Red Devils are hoping to receive around £40 million for the striker. A number of clubs are already interested in him ahead of the summer transfer period.

Juventus, Napoli and Atletico Madrid have all been linked, while Borussia Dortmund are considering a deal. Barcelona have also held talks, with loan club Getafe also looking to retain his services.
