Facing Guelph’s Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School at the Bisons Alumni North Park Sports Complex in the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association championship, the Trojans fell behind 2-0 after the first half before ultimately losing 3-0.

“We had a lot of chances and I felt like we had the upper hand in the second half and should have come out on top,” said NPC star Jada Arthurs.

“It’s disappointing.”

North Park had defeated their opponents 18-0 in the preliminary round, before beating Cambridge’s Southwood 8-0 in the semi-finals.

Not to be outdone, Bishop Mac had defeated his opponents 19-0 in the preliminary round before winning the semi-final against St David’s.

For added motivation, Bishop Mac had lost 2-1 to North Park in a shootout in the final of the CWOSSA tournament last year, so they were looking for revenge.

The first 14 minutes of this year’s final went back and forth and on the first real scoring opportunity of the match, Harlowe Ho put the ball past NPC keeper Hannah Ahlberg via a cross.

Unable to generate much attack with a strong wind in their faces and a brick wall erected by Bishop Mac’s defence, North Park’s only real scoring opportunity came after a Niamh Kukla free-kick that was deflected into Bishop’s hands by Arthurs Mac was led. goalkeeper Ella Humphrey.

The Trojans then trailed 2-0 entering the second half when Hanna Spears scored in the 41st minute.

Early in the second inning, Ahlberg made a huge save on Bishop Mac’s Addison Atiyeh and that may have given her team a spark. Kukla and Taylor Rombout were dangerous in attack for North Park, but it was Arthurs who created numerous chances with deft dribbling and powerful shooting.

“It says we have a lot of fight in us,” Arthurs said of the chances the Trojans created in the second half.

“We wanted it. We wanted to go to OFSAA.”

Despite the loss, North Park will ultimately look back on the season positively.

“It was very successful,” said Arthurs, who will attend the University of Cincinnati at the end of the summer on an NCAA scholarship.

“From Game 1 to the end, it’s a different team. We have definitely grown together.”

In the semi-final win, Arthurs scored four goals, Rombout got a pair and Niobe Hare and Lucy Hunter got one each. Ahlberg earned the shutout:
