DICKINSON – A pair of double plays provided the solution in the eighth inning as the West Fargo softball team defeated 10-9 in the North Dakota State Class A quarterfinals on Thursday at the Sanford Sports Complex.

With the score tied at 9-9 in the bottom of the eighth, West Fargo’s Kendall Krenz led off with a double to center field. After a pop-out, Aubrey Finn of the Packers hit a ball to left field, bringing Krenz home with the winning run.

Mandan appeared to take control of the game, erasing a one-point deficit with three runs in the fourth inning and adding five more in the fifth to take a 9–3 lead.

But the Packers struck back with five runs in the sixth to pull within one, then tied the score in the bottom of the seventh. West Fargo loaded the bases on a single and two walks, and Sydney Dye’s fielder’s choice to short brought home Chloe Papenfuss with the tying run.
