New appointments at Rambam Hospital – Chai Foh

Dr. Yuli Volovik Samoha – was appointed head of the investigative authority at the hospital

Dr. Volovik holds a doctorate from the Hebrew University Faculty of Medicine in molecular biology and biochemistry, and is a researcher in the field of brain research and aging processes.

Between 2005 and 2016, Dr. Volovik completed her doctoral studies in molecular biology and neurodegenerative diseases at the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University. During these years, she was a partner in setting up a research laboratory in the area of ​​her studies at the faculty, led experiments in which she was able to characterize a genetic factor for aging, aimed at investigating processes that help the development of the symptoms of diseases such as to delay Alzheimer’s disease and extend the healthy lifespan of the organism, she was involved in student counseling and was a partner in writing 8 scientific articles.

Between 2017 and 2022, Dr. Volovik is engaged in providing strategic advice to international companies and organizations active in the pharmaceutical and medical device fields, with the aim of helping them obtain non-dilutive financing from government and private entities, primarily in the US, emphasizing the research for each company and its field.

In 2023, Dr. Volovic as CSO at the promising startup EndoCure, which focuses on developing diagnostic and therapeutic methods for endometriosis.

Dr. Yonatan Botbol – the new director of the pediatric rheumatology unit in Rambam

Dr. Botbol completed his medical studies at the Technion in 1999. After completing his studies, he specialized in pediatrics at the “Haemek” hospital in Afula and then went on to specialize in pediatric rheumatology at the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, Canada, one of the ‘ the world’s leading centers in pediatric rheumatology.

Dr. Botbol has been a senior doctor in the pediatric department of Rambam since 2009 and has led the field of pediatric rheumatology at the hospital for the past 14 years. In addition, he has managed the children’s day hospital for the past 5 years.

Dr. Botbol has an academic appointment, is a senior clinical lecturer at the Technion Faculty of Medicine, is active in the department of rheumatology, has published dozens of articles in the professional press and presented at dozens of local and international conferences. Dr. Botbol supervises a large number of MD students and specializes in fundamental scientific work.

Dr. Ido Sholt, director of the Maternal and Fetal Unit at Rambam, was recently informed by the management of the Technion’s School of Medicine of the appointment of professor clinical faculty member.

Let us briefly mention that Dr. Schulte graduated cum laude from the Faculty of Medicine, specializing in Maternal and Fetal Medicine, at the largest center in the western US: Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. Since 2010, he has headed the Maternal and Fetal Medicine department in Rambam. He is an active member of three national councils of the Ministry of Health: the Neonatology, Gynecology and Genetics Council, the Women’s Health and Sex and Gender Medicine Council and the Community Health Council, and was the elected chairman of the Northern Branch of the Israeli Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

Prof. Sholt initiated and coordinated several research teams that won prestigious research grants. Main research areas: Single cell RNA sequencing of the placenta in toxemia and gestational diabetes, the effect of environmental pollution in Haifa Bay on pregnancy outcomes. Infections and pregnancy and prenatal diagnosis have led to the publication of many articles in the field of maternal and fetal medicine and in the field of prenatal diagnosis.
