The new owners of a well-known Wrexham hotel have unveiled plans for a £250,000 investment.

Experienced hotelier Steven Hesketh and Daniel Gillon, co-founder and director of Onyx Real Estate Liverpool, have taken over the management of the Holt Lodge Hotel.

The venue is a 37-bedroom roadside hotel situated on approximately 7.18 hectares of land on Wrexham Road in Holt.

As the previous owners planned to retire, the hotel went on the market in the summer of 2023.

Now the new owners, who took over the hotel on May 28, have unveiled plans for a £250,000 investment program in the coming months.

This includes all 37 rooms undergoing renovations within the next six months.

From there, the owners say the focus will shift to the 120+ person event suite and its use – with the hope of working closely with local businesses and sports clubs to host networking and events, including sports dinners and other events.

The owners are also keen to offer external catering facilities for pre-match dinners and packages.

One of the lead investors, Steven Hesketh, already owns The Chester Townhouse, a family business, and is heavily involved in the hospitality industry.

He is excited to focus on what can be done to support, protect and grow the visitor economy, through the development of the Holt Lodge Hotel.

Steven says: “This week, as Wrexham continues to be celebrated for its winning streak under Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – who regularly help the town make headlines – the stars have united in the region’s hospitality scene, creating waves for to create the future. of another iconic Wrexham landmark: Holt Lodge Hotel.

“The award-winning hotel has been run by husband and wife team Andrew and Alexandra Smeaton and their family for over 25 years.

“It is recognized as part of the region’s history and is fondly known for its warm hospitality, excellent restaurants and comfortable accommodation.

“However, the time has come for new owners to map out the future of the hotel and we are pleased to take on that challenge.”

Dan added: “We are very honored to occupy a location that is part of the lives of so many local people. Speak to anyone in the area and they, or someone they know, worked here, got married here, or attended a wedding here.

“We are proud to be here in Wrexham and look forward to developing events that bring the community together.”

Joe Bickerton, destination and tourism manager for Wrexham County Borough, said: “Holt Lodge has been part of the fabric of Wrexham for many years and people would hope something like this would happen as there is a great loyalty to the place.

“Plans to breathe new life into it will help Wrexham.

“I am excited about the enthusiasm and expertise that these guys bring and that is why we are happy to support this.”

Holt Lodge Hotel remains open and the team plans to fully relaunch the hotel at the end of June, with an opening party to celebrate and share future plans.
