GB News shares everything you need to know

He told GB News: “To start growing sunflowers, it is best to plant them between April and May as this is when the sun begins to appear in the sky and the weather begins to improve – the ideal conditions for the flowers to grow. to bloom.

“It is also recommended to grow them in soil that is rich in nutrients, so if you buy compost, peat-free compost will work well.”

Sunflowers need a lot of sun and should be watered regularly. David continues: “Sunflowers are very easy to grow and care for and usually take up to 18 weeks to bloom, sometimes sooner.

“To grow sunflowers all you need are sunflower seeds and a spot in the garden that has access to the sun, as sunflowers need about eight hours of sunlight per day.

“It is also important to ensure they are sheltered from strong winds and heavy rain, to avoid damage to the seeds or petals.

“It is very important to make sure they are well watered because once they have dried out and wilted they are very difficult to revive and you may have to start all over again.”

Sunflowers are incredibly distinctive thanks to their bright yellow petals and ability to grow up to four meters in height.

If you want tall sunflowers, it is better to plant them in the open ground, the expert continued.

He said: “You can grow your sunflowers in the ground or in a pot, but if you want a tall sunflower it is best to grow it straight from the ground.

“Because sunflowers are known for being tall plants, it is best to support the stems with stakes or wooden supports to prevent the plant from falling and falling to the side.

“Once your flowers are ready, you can even leave the heads on the plants to help nature, as birds love to feast on them.”
