A Palestinian flag that had been flown outside Leinster House has been removed.

The flag was first flown outside the parliament building on the day Ireland formally recognized Palestinian statehood this week.

It was hoisted on a flagpole next to the EU flag and the Ukrainian flag, which was displayed after the Russian invasion.

However, on Friday the Palestinian flag was no longer visible outside Leinster House.

The flags of the EU and Ukraine are still being flown.

Irish ministers met on Tuesday and officially agreed to recognize a Palestinian state, in partnership with Spain and Norway.

Asked about the decision to take down the flag, an Oireacthas spokeswoman said: “The flag was raised to mark the government’s motion in the Dail last Tuesday.”
