Brooklyn Nets should pursue Pacers star Pascal Siakam

By Vaseline May26,2024

According to Marc Stein, the Brooklyn Nets were involved in trade talks with the Toronto Raptors for their former forward Pascal Siakam. The veteran forward is currently on the verge of being defeated in the Eastern Conference Finals and the Boston Celtics haven’t even been able to utilize Kristaps Porzingis during the series.

Toronto has previously expressed interest in Nets center Nic Claxton, but Indiana’s trade package was accepted before last season’s trade deadline. Claxton certainly would have been part of Brooklyn’s package for Siakam, which is why it’s not surprising the Nets ultimately didn’t make these types of moves.

In 2023, after eyeing the rising center, the Raptors offered a first-round pick to try to acquire Claxton. League sources also told HoopsHype that the Nets and Raptors had explored packages using Nets forward Ben Simmons as the centerpiece along with several first-round draft picks.

That said, there are some uncertainties surrounding the Pacers’ progress. This summer, Siakam will be a free agent. Haliburton is about to get a huge pay raise. Aaron Nesmith and Obi Toppin are also due for a raise. Siakam is targeting a max contract this summer, which would start at $42.3 million. If the Nets reactivate their pursuit of Siakam, it will need to be done in advance to trade away Simmons to free up space.

The Pacers forward averaged 21.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 16 games during the 2024 playoffs.
