Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy has suggested that a rumored Arsenal transfer target could soon reach ‘world class’ status.

This summer, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expected to make a number of key signings to improve the team’s performance, with Athletic Club star Nico Williams and Crystal Palace playmaker Michael Olise among the potential recruits.

However, Van Nistelrooy has another candidate in mind: PSG star Xavi Simons. Speaking to Marca, the former United striker expressed his belief that the Dutch international could become one of the best players in the world, with Arsenal reportedly keen to secure his signature.

“Xavi Simons is in the spotlight, and although he is not a new discovery, he is on his way to reaching a world-class level,” said Van Nistelrooy. “I had him at PSV and now he is working on his next steps at Leipzig. I believe he is ready to become a starter for a great team.”

Simons, who spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig, will leave Paris this summer. The 22-year-old impressed during his loan spell, scoring ten goals and providing fifteen assists in all competitions.

His versatility, having played in multiple positions for the German club, makes him an attractive option for Arsenal, especially given Arteta’s desire for wide forwards.

Van Nistelrooy highlighted Simons’ qualities, saying: “He has character, professionalism and is focused on maximizing his potential. He can dribble, score goals, excel in transitions and play in tight spaces. He is very complete.”

Comparisons with Tomas Rosicky suggest Simons could be a dream signing for Arsenal, fitting the profile of players Arteta wants. However, with other clubs also interested in the Dutch international, Arsenal will have to act quickly to secure his services.

Simons, valued at £52 million, could be the crucial addition Arsenal need to strengthen their attack for the coming season.
