Top tips ahead of the $150 million Powerball drawing

By Vaseline May27,2024

If a lucky Australian takes home the entire $150 million Powerball jackpot on Thursday evening, he would immediately become the country’s biggest ever Lotto winner.

The Powerball jackpot has risen to $150 million and half of Australian adults are expected to have a ticket in this week’s draw.

It will be the third largest prize ever offered by an Australian lottery, which has not had a division one winner in the past six weeks.

Lott spokesman Matt Hart said there have only been five draws that have yielded a jackpot of $150 million or more.

“If just one person takes home this $150 million prize Thursday night, they will make history by becoming the nation’s largest-ever individual lottery winner,” he said.

“In 2019, a Sydney nurse became Australia’s current biggest individual lottery winner when she won more than $107 million.

“We spoke to her minutes after the winning numbers were drawn – will we speak to a new record holder on Thursday evening?”

The last time Powerball offered a $150 million prize was in January, when 7,455 tickets were sold in one minute on the day of the drawing.

“Based on previous big jackpots, we can expect lottery retailers and online to become increasingly busy in the run-up to Thursday evening’s draw,” Mr Hart said.

“We encourage customers to not only get in early to purchase their entries, but also register their entries on a player card or online account so we can contact them directly with incredible news after the draw.

“If we have a winner of the First Division on Thursday evening, we want to let you know immediately after the draw. They may not have to go to work on Friday, or ever again.”

So far this year, six winning entries from Powerball Division One have raised more than $270 million. There have been three wins each in Queensland and NSW.

If you need some tips on finding those lucky numbers, more than half of Powerball Division One’s winning entries last year were QuickPicks – where the lottery terminal randomly generated your numbers.

More than half of the winning Powerball Division One entries in 2023 were PowerHit entries, guaranteeing the all-important Powerball number needed to win Division One.

The most frequently drawn numbers were 17, 7, 3 and 9, while the least drawn numbers are 33, 15, 31 and 26.

From the separate Powerball barrel, where a single Powerball number is drawn from 20, the most frequently drawn Powerball numbers were 2 and 4, while the least drawn Powerball numbers were 14 and 16.
