Ground has been broken for a new five-star International Conference Center Hotel in Enugu, Nigeria.

Enugu Governor Dr. Peter Mbah led the groundbreaking ceremony.

During the ceremony, the Governor also inspected the Enugu International Conference Centre, which has been long abandoned but is now being completed and modernised.

The center has a capacity for 5,000 people.

According to project consultant Adibe Njoku, the hotel is expected to complement the conference center.

The hotel will house 335 rooms, including 224 single rooms, 64 business suites, 25 diplomatic suites and two presidential suites, the governor said.

It is said to have all the amenities you would expect from a five-star hotel.

China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has been selected to carry out the construction of the project.

The five-star hotel is expected to transform Enugu into a hub for investment, business, tourism and leisure.

The plan is to expand the state’s economy from the current $4.4 billion to $30 billion within four to eight years.

The state government has committed to provide all necessary support to ensure timely completion of the hotel without any increase in costs.

Governor Dr. Peter Mbah said: “The contractor has assured us that this project will be completed within eleven months. So we hope to come here next April to put this project into use. We are going to pursue them and we have been assured that they will be working day and night as we hope that the International Conference Center, which is already under construction, will be ready in a few months.

“We want to optimize the Conference Center and we are assured that there will be no variation and no time overrun.”
