The restaurant is known for its ‘delicious dishes’ and serves classic takeaway meals.

But bosses announced in a recent statement that the cafe will close its doors in the coming weeks.

They revealed the sad news in a statement on the facade of their building: “It is with great sadness that Café Roma will close its doors on Monday 3 June after 57 years of existence.

“We would like to thank all our customers, employees and suppliers for their support over the years.”

They concluded by thanking their customers again, saying: “Our sincere thanks, Daniela and Domenico.”

Fans of the chip shop were left devastated by the news.

One customer said: “So sad to hear that Roma Café is closing.”

Another said: “So sad.”

Locals had previously praised the takeaway on Tripadvisor.

One user said the “friendly staff” was the highlight of their visit.

They said: “What I really want to highlight is the friendly staff. We received a very warm welcome, even though we arrived just before closing time.

“The waitress was very nice and honest.

“The food was served well.

“There were four of us, the other three loved the fish and chips, I thought it was a bit greasy.

“But since I was the only one, maybe I’m too picky.

“Value for your money!”

Another punter even went as far as to rate the takeaway 10/10 stars.

They posted: “Went here on Feb 14 for a bite to eat, very difficult to choose from the menu (so much delicious food) but opted for the Fish and Chips.

“I waited 10 minutes and my order arrived, huge side of fish and plenty of chips, absolutely delicious food and excellent value throughout the menu, friendly staff and a really good experience, definitely try this restaurant you won’t be disappointed or hungry 10 /10.”

The news came weeks after Kilkenny lost another much-loved pub, The Ground Floor.

The High Street cafe closed in March after a sign was placed in the window.

It read: “Thank you for being a loyal customer of The Ground Floor.

“Your laughter, conversations and smiles have filled the walls with love and warmth.

“This business would not have run as smoothly without the excellent staff over the years.

“We look forward to new beginnings and may our paths cross again one day.”
