The Bangladesh national cricket team begins their official T20 World Cup journey today as they take on the USA in the first of their two warm-up matches in Dallas, Texas today.

The match starts at 9:30 PM and Nagorik TV will broadcast the match live.

The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, to be held in the West Indies and the US, will begin on June 1 with an opening ceremony before the first match the next day.

Bangladesh endured a terrible run in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against hosts USA as they suffered a 2-1 defeat, losing the first encounter by five wickets and the second by six runs.

On both occasions, the Tigers failed to prove their worth in batting, bowling and fielding.

However, they managed to regain some form in the final match of the series, blowing away the home side to record a 10-wicket win thanks to an unbeaten 58 off 42 from Tanzid Hasan Tamim and 43 off 28 from Soumya Sarkar.

They were able to get past the total thanks to Mustafizur Rahman’s best figures of 6-10, allowing them to restrict the home side to 104-9.

To better prepare for the top event, Bangladesh will have to repeat what they did in the last match.

If they manage to pull off another big win against the team that got them into trouble, they can head into the global event with some confidence.

Skipper Shanto from Bangladesh acknowledged this after the third match.

‘It’s very disappointing for us (losing the series). To be honest, we didn’t play well. But we finished on a high level, and I think this confidence in the run-up to the World Cup will help us, and we know all the circumstances and all those things,” he said.

“So we’ve been through all those things. If we go to the World Cup with those experiences, it will benefit our team.’

To continue the new momentum, the Tigers must deliver in all three departments. Especially those at the top must take responsibility, otherwise the team would suffer on a massive scale, further eroding their morale.

Like their batting, Bangladesh bowlers also need to do better in the matches as they have often failed to maintain their rhythm during the matches in recent times.

Keeping that requirement in mind, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain said he hoped to top the list of wicket-takers in the upcoming major competition.

‘Of course, as a bowler I want to see the title of ‘highest wicket taker’ next to my name. And as an all-rounder, I want to see myself at a much higher level,” the leg-spinner said in a video posted on social media by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday.
