Evanston’s food scene is buzzing with new openings and announcements

By Vaseline May27,2024

There has been a flurry of openings – and announcements about upcoming openings – in recent weeks as Evanston prepares for the arrival of the summer season. There’s so much to be excited about for those of us who love good food and appreciate the abundance of options Evanston has to offer.

What’s new:

Beth’s Little Bakehouse

online only

Beth Welch is active again! After closing Beth’s Little Bake Shop on Central Street last year, she has reopened as a city-licensed home-based microbakery in Evanston for online orders. The bakery only delivers now, which makes perfect sense because she bakes from her own kitchen. Their old website is up and running, so if you fancy some of her fantastic French macarons, scones, cookies or butter cookies, just place your order. Local delivery, Tuesday – Friday, 8am – 3pm.

Dos Bros Fresh Mexican Grill

1629 Orrington Ave, 224-714-2956

Head to the short commercial stretch of Orrington Avenue in Downtown Evanston to check out Dos Bros, which opened in early May. It’s similar in feel to Chipotle, but there’s a real push for cleaner eating. The meat is hormone-free, the cheese is shredded on site (so no anti-caking agents are present), the beans are cooked in the store every day, the salsa is made fresh daily, and the food is cooked in rice bran oil (except the tortilla) . chips, which are cooked on site in non-GMO sunflower oil and sprinkled with kosher salt and lime juice). You choose your meal – burrito, bowl, salad, nachos, tacos or quesadilla – and your protein (chicken, steak, carnitas, barbacoa, spicy tofu or vegetarian), and then your toppings (rice, beans, salsa, corn salsa, shredded cheese , sour cream, guacamole, queso and romaine lettuce). Your meal is completely customizable. Open daily from 10am – 10pm.
